We send a hardy congratulations to Brad and Leighanne! This was another perfect Michigan winter wedding day! The whole gang was willing to brave the cold for some fabulous outdoor winter wedding photographs. The day was topped off by a visit to the hospital to visit Brad's grandfather who had suffered a heart attack the morning of their wedding. We were downtown GR for their fabulous wedding and we got to share the church with ArtPrize which was a little exciting and interesting all at once. Their reception was at the fantastic Meijer Gardens and their DJ was the top notch D James from D James Productions. We are always impressed with James' ability to create a great celebration! Charles and Megan had a near-perfect day for their wonderful wedding and reception at the fabulous English Inn in Eaton Rapids. Their outdoor ceremony was stunning. Wow! We started at a beautiful garden for their outdoor wedding ceremony and ended at Cody's dad's pimped-out poll barn for the reception...it was awesome! The food was amazing, smoked and cooked right there, dancing, movies, cotton candy, and games for the kids. Not to mention the built-in bar installed just for the occasion. Congratulations to Adam and Kristen. This was a total MSU wedding. We visited all kinds of fun places around campus including the rock, Sparty, MSU stadium, and Baumont Tower. Jodi "I think I'm lost...I'm in the middle of nowhere." Dan "no hunny, you're getting close!"

Christian and Alyson were married at a fabulous little church just north of a big field. It was the church where Christian attended school. It is close to the highest point in Ottawa County so imagine rolling hills, apple orchards, big blue sky, and fabulous sunshine. We missed the tractor parade by just a few minutes.

We enjoyed the wonderful company of their family and friends along with a nice breeze sweeping over the hills. It was marvelous. I can't say enough about their wedding and their wedding coordinator, Laura, from White Dress Events and Gail Vanderlaan the florist. The evening concluded at Blythfield Hills Country Club for a wonderful dinner and dancing. Congratulations Christian and Alyson! Here are a few images from their day. See their preview below.

We spent most of the day at the fabulous Windmill Island in Holland, MI. Windmill Island continues to be one of our favorite wedding locations. It has plenty of fabulous places for fantastic photography and is absolutely wonderful for family and friends. Mark and Aliza had way too much fun together and we were honored to be there to photograph it all. Mark's brother even wrote a song for them and sang it at the reception...it was....wonderful! Brad and Katie waited so patiently for the perfect day for their Lake Michigan Engagement session. I think we rescheduled like 3 or 4 times. Mother nature could not kill our resolve and we finally had perfect weather for their session. They were even willing to hike off the beaten path and get photographed by a random sailboat named "agape" which means love. How sweet is that!?

Totally sweet engagement session with Chris and Becca. Perfect trip to the beach. So, at the top of the dunes we ran into an 86 year old gentleman. Yes, at the top of the dunes! I think he told us specifically how many steps he had climbed to get there. Hope I can do that when I am his age. Anyway, he offered his best wishes to Chris and Becca. It was super sweet. All Well and Safe -- Ted Cofer

I attended a funeral yesterday for my Step-dad's Grandfather-in-law. I had met Ted just 2 times and never knew him when he was younger. Ted was born in 1923 and passed away last Friday. Ted served our country in World War II. Although he was dressed in his civilian clothing, the photographs that surrounded him were of family, friends, and his time in the service. Ted believed in God and is now in Heaven with his creator. I was moved by a note that Ted had written home from the war. It read:

"All well and safe. Please don't worry."
I couldn't help but think how appropriate that was back then and how appropriate it is today. Ted is all well and safe. We shall not worry.

There was a military ceremony for him at the funeral. I found myself deeply moved with appreciation for Ted and all others who serve and have served our nation as 10 aged soldiers in uniform passed by his coffin, stood at attention, and slowly saluted this fallen soldier. Before the 21 gun solute, an elderly soldier gracefully spoke the following words:

"We are assembled here to pay our last tribute of respect to our departed comrade. When the call of our country was heard, comrade Cofer answered; self was forgotten in the cause of the greater good. As a brave man he marched away with an abiding faith in his god, his country and his flag.

The red of our country's flag was made redder still by his heroism; the white, more stainlessly pure by the motives which impelled him; and, in the starry field of our nation's glorious banner, the blue has been glorified by the service has has given for American Ideals.

One by one, as the years roll on, we are called upon to fulfill these sad duties of respect to our departed comrades. The present, full of the cares that beset all nations whether engaged in war or peace, fades away as we look back on the day this comrade left his home to defend his country. Imbued by a spirit of devotion and inspired by an undying love of his native land, he gladly went forth and joined with comrades both young and old to preserve our heritage of freedom.

We trust that the example set by our comrade will prove a glorious beacon to the youth of our country, who may be called to uphold the honor of our flag.

As the years roll on, we, too, shall have finished our fight, shall be laid to rest, and our souls follow the long column to the realms above, as all-enfolding death, hour by hour, shall mark his recruits.

Let us so live that when the keeper of the Eternal Records shall have called our names for the last time, those we leave behind may say of us, as we say of this comrade "here lied all that is mortal of a true-hearted comrade, and a fearless defender of his country and flag."

Thank you, Ted, for leaving such a beacon.

Greetings friends, We are once again starting to think about our upcoming High School Seniors. We have a crazy amount of fun with our seniors and are eager to meet all of the up-and-coming seniors. So, while at WPPI (Wedding and Portrait Photographers International) in Vegas I bumped into Tom Hauenstein, one of the platform speakers and our friend from Lexjet (One of our top-notch vendors). After a little small talk Tom asked me what I was doing Friday to which I answered "not much." I returned the question asking Tom what he was doing Friday and he stated lightly that he was GETTING MARRIED.....IN VEGAS?......YES VEGAS!!!

Do you have a photographer? No......
Do you want a photographer? Yes......

The rest is History. We met Tom's fiance, Sara, at a fabulous Salon in the MGM, and spent the rest of the day with them capturing their wedding day and their wedding ceremony at a cute little wedding chapel in Vegas. We got in trouble three times through the day photographing them where apparently we were not suppose to be photographing. Wee hoo. Vegas is awesome!!

Tom and Sara, First, thank you for asking us to be part of your wedding day. Second, Thank you for spending so much time with us. Third, thank you for the honor of letting us witness your wedding.

December is an absolutely fabulous time of year for a wedding!! Ryan and Kelly chose the Lansing Center for their wedding celebration, decked out with huge and wonderful Christmas trees, and loads of fabulous decorations. Their son was pulled down the isle in a terrific little sleigh by the flower girl and the reception was beautiful with white and red chair covers, terrific arrangements on the tables and more wonderful Christmas decorations. Josh and Becca had a perfect wedding day. Chilly, but sunny, they braved the cold to meet outdoors where Josh got to see Becca in her dress for the first time. What a cool moment!! Becca sported a cool blue princess temporary tattoo on her ankle. The Best Man, Rob, was a bit of a trouble-maker, but we managed. We consider Ada Bible Church our home and so it is always nice to share a day with family there. Trace and Diane were married a short while ago at Ada and we had a terrific day with their family and friends. The ceremony was "in the round" [very cool] and was a wonderful intimate time witnessing Trace and Diane's wedding vows. From there we enjoyed dinner together at Mangiomo's in Grand Rapids. Congratulations to Stacey and Andrew! So, imagine preparing for your wedding in a beautiful new home on the shores of Lake Michigan! That is what Stacey and Andrew did and it was wonderful! Everything was perfect right down to the fucia "frilly things" on the girls flip flops....what fun!! The guys were a little shocked that they had to wear pink flowers, but they got over it and they looked exceptional! The reception was incredible at the new "Til Midnight" banquet hall in Holland. Congratulations Matt & Melissa! Thank you so much for having us at your wedding. We had a blast! You guys were wonderful and you had the sweetest, most wonderful people involved with your wedding. It was just awesome! Your bridal dance was awesome, your Limbo was sweet, and your grandfather leading the square dance was really great and totally unique. I think the DJ said it best when he proclaimed that this was "the best party of the year!". We had a great time capturing Brian and Stacey's wedding day. From jumping on the Trolley, to eating at Maggie Moo's, to riding on the carousel at the phenomenal VanAndel Museum. Brian, Stacey, and all of their friends made the day great! We even got to see the Trolly crunch the side of a new Beemer when we stopped at the Bride and groom's home (Thankfully, no one was hurt). The party was great, the dancing and food were amazing, and I even learned what a "motorboat" was.

It is always hard planning a wedding in April, in Michigan, but we couldn't have asked for better day. The sun shone all day and made it nice and warm outside.
Sometimes, when kids won't smile for the camera, we tell them not to smile and then they do. It's reverse psychology and works like a charm. So when I asked Alan not to smile, I thought that he thought I was tricking him, because he kept smiling. He couldn't not smile. How fantastic. What a great problem to have. That's when you know that a wedding is going well, and it certainly did. Alan and Laurie, you are two amazing people and were honored to share your special day with you. Ellery and GG

A few weeks ago we were spending some time with Family and Ellery, my 2 year old daughter, spent some time studying the hands of her great grandma who she calls "GG". She carefully studied the wrinkles and curves and I could not help but wonder what was going through her young mind. The contrast of her little hands holding the aged hands of her great grandmother gave me pause. I can only imagine what those wrinkles represent and the experiences and wisdom that they hold and the hope that they bring to a young girl looking ahead to a long-life, just like her GG.

Headed Home

This is my step-dad's brother, Graeme. Jodi and I had the honor of meeting him when my mom and Bruce were married last year. Graeme lives in Australia where he was raised. Just imagine the coolest Australian accent you can muster and then picture Graeme, you got it.....Mate. It was a pleasure to meet him and spend just a little time enjoying his joyful spirit and his great sense of humor.

According to the doctors, Graeme is headed home to heaven in just a few days. Graeme says he knows where he is going and he is ready to go. He is spending his last few days with his wife and kids, and talking with his mom and Bruce over here in the States. He is weak, tired, and ready to go.

It is moments like these when there are about a million things you would like to say.

Graeme, it has been a pleasure to know you. You are a blessing to me and to others. We will miss you and will see you again one day when we will enjoy eternity together. We look forward to coming home too someday.

Do you know where you are headed? Are you ready to go? If you had only a few days left on earth, what would do.....or undo?

Our first wedding of the year was great! We headed east past Lansing for Ashley and Timothy's big day! We had a great time with all their friends and family. They had a great bridal party that was ready for some fun. The guys were even wearing camouflage vests and ties. The dancing at the reception went all night long and Timothy and his boys even dressed up as the Village People and did the YMCA. It is great! We are so happy for you Ashley and Timothy! We survived February!

We made it! I don't know about you, there always seems to be a feeling of great accomplishment as we exit the month of February and begin to see signs of spring. No really, the days get longer, the news guy actually mentions the first day of spring, the temperature starts inching up and the sun actually comes out on occasion.

Today I actually saw my entire driveway for the first time in months!

This coming weekend our 2008 wedding season begins. We are pumped and ready to go for sure! It is going to be a great weekend! We also have a lot of specials happening at the studio right now for kids and families and that is generating a ton of energy as well.

Last weekend we participated in a bowling fund raiser for Camp Ao-Wa-Kiya. It was a ball with the kids and we raised a bunch of money for camp. Thanks to all of you who pledged us! We appreciate it.

We were so blessed in 2007 to photograph 28 weddings. We met some amazing people and had so much fun capturing these great images. 'Tis the season

It has been our first Saturday home in a long time and we took the opportunity to decorate our Christmas tree and make home all warm and cozy for the winter. As it turns out a winter storm blew in bringing us our first measurable snow of the season adding extra excitement to the day. As the kids get older they enjoy this more and more.
